Republicans Spread Fake China Hacking Story To Deflect From Trump's Subservience To Russia

On August 29 Donald Trump tweeted: "Hillary Clinton’s Emails, many of which are Classified Information, got hacked by China."



The tweet came shortly after Fox News reported on a story by the right-wing media outlet Daily Caller alleging that China had hacked Hillary Clinton's e-mail server. 


"A Chinese-owned company operating in the Washington, D.C., area hacked Hillary Clinton’s private server throughout her term as secretary of state and obtained nearly all her emails," the report claimed, citing "two sources briefed on the matter."

However, on August 29 an FBI official rebutted the story, telling the Washington Post that the agency "has not found any evidence the servers were compromised". 

The official pointed to a report released in June by the Office of the Inspector General of the US Department of Justice, which concluded that "the FBI investigation and its forensic analysis did not find evidence that Clinton’s email server systems were compromised."


The China hacking story is yet another attempt by the right-wing media to construct a narrative without factual basis in order to distract from Donald Trump's puzzling subservience to Russia and his efforts to obstruct the investigation into Russian elections meddling, which he actively encouraged during the 2016 election campaign.

"Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing, I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press," Trump told a stunned pool of reporters at a press conference on July 27, 2016.

Trip to Tainan

Tainan Train Station Last weekend I made a one day trip to the Southern Taiwanese city of Tainan (Chinese: č‡ŗ南, pinyin: TĆ”inĆ”n), the former capital and one of the most important centres of culture, history and architecture of the island.
